THE LADY AND ANIME

Exploring the World of Anime

OH, HAI, GUYS!

I have not really been blogging and I have missed talking aimlessly to whoever decides to stop by and read. I’ve still been watching anime, of course. One twitter follower even said that I watch a lot. One could never watch too much anime, right? Right??? But I’ll tell you what has really been keeping me occupied and that is Mass Effect. The time that I normally would spend watching anime, I have been playing Mass Effect. I even stopped playing Skyrim just so I could FINISH MASS EFFECT.  This is one of the best video games I have ever played. Why am I just now getting interested in the series? I’m ashamed of myself for falling for the thousands of Tumblr posts about it so I wanted to know more. I wonder how many anime fans are gamers? Is it something that usually goes together?

Outside of playing video games, I have also been watching the popular Western anime Legend of Korra. Suffice it to say, I am in the minority in that I am not fawning over it excessively. It is an enjoyable watch but it doesn’t keep me as entertained as The Last Airbender did; it feels as if there is something missing. I have an idea what it is but I haven’t been able to fully articulate it. Part of it may be due to me wanting to see Korra in the Avatar state and we have yet to see that.  I don’t think I will feel the same sense of loss as I did at the end of The Last Airbender with the Legend of Korra. I like Korra as a character but I don’t love her. I have found myself more interested in the supporting characters such as Asami, Bolin, and Chief Lin Beifong (she’s my favorite).

I’m still watching this Spring’s anime and the season is winding down to a close.  There have been some disappointments and I haven’t been as excited as usual. For the most part, I have forced myself to watch shows to finish the season out. I haven’t decided if I am to watch any of the summer shows (probably going to be a lot of moe shows or fanservice heavy shows, blech). But here is a well put together list for you with YouTube clips if you want to see previews: Summer 2012 Season. That’s all for now, everyone!  And this is my 55th WordPress post! Yay, thanks, WordPress for keeping up with all these milestones. What have you been watching, reading, doing?

  1. I haven’t watched Legend of Korra yet – figure maybe I’ll get around to it one of these days. Overall I did enjoy The Last Airbender, though I felt it drag in a few places. However, I also found it was a supporting character I really took a liking to rather than the main character – Toph is one of my favorite characters in any show. Not because of what she can do (and she really CAN do), but the way her personality came across to me was just so compelling.

    • Toph was also one of my favorite characters which is why it comes as no surprise that her daughter is a favorite. The Chief is like an adult Toph except I feel in some situations Toph would have been better able to get out of. She still has the strength (mentally and physically) that Toph had.

  2. I love Mass Effect! Such a good game. The ending for Mass Effect 3 isn’t the greatest, if you’ve heard anything about that, but it’s still an enjoyable series to play. Are you playing as female or male Shepard? Did you romance anyone? Because I became such a Bioware fangirl, I find I have a lot of things to say about the Mass Effect games and the Dragon Age games. Dragon Age: Origins is really good if you are into fantasy games. Give that one a shot if you haven’t already.

    I wasn’t always a gamer. I was strictly an anime/manga fan until most of my friends who are gamers finally got me to join the dark side. Now I’m both, and it’s really a dilemma to decide what to do. Play games? Watch anime? Or read manga? Such a hard decision. XD

    • I’ve heard about the ending of Mass Effect 3, makes me not want to play it. I’m not going to worry about it right now because I still have to finish Mass Effect 1 and 2! I’m playing with a female Shepard and she is awesome! I haven’t romanced anyone yet but I have my sights set on Kaidan. I’m new to mass Effect so maybe you could provide me with pointers. Did you play it on XBox or PC?

      • I played all the games on Xbox. And I love female Shepard too! I’ve only done one playthrough of all three games so I definitely need to go back and do other playthroughs. I encourage you to romance Kaidan. His romance path gets really good by Mass Effect 3. The ending is crap, but you should play 3 just to see Kaidan’s romance through to completion.

        This is why I really enjoy the Mass Effect games and Dragon Age: Origins, you can keep replaying the game several times over with different decisions made for each playthrough. Somehow, it’ll always feel like a different game each time.

  3. I’m also a gamer. *high five*
    Gah, so jealous you get to play Mass Effect. I want to play it too, but no 360. ;___; I’m not watching any current anime at the moment. I’m forever stuck watching old stuff I missed out on. ^__^;;;

    • Do you have a PC? Its on the PC and Mass Effect 2 and 3 are on the PS3. I’m probably going to be behind on the summer anime because sometimes I take breaks from anime (current) and watch the older shows. I’m watching Baccano! right now.

      • I only have a laptop and it’s doesn’t have a dedicated graphics card, so I don’t think it can run ME1. On the bright side, maybe down the road when the 360’s successor is out and the console drops in price, I’ll pick it up along with the ME games and a few other RPGs I’ve been eyeing that are only available on 360. 🙂
